Disgusting Cupcakes

Yesterday was Iris names day. We thought we should celebrate this by decorating and eating a ton of cupcakes. With all that frosting, sugarpaste and sprinkles, they turned out to be a bit disgusting. Too sugary... Won't be making any more... But we had fun making them

Project: Ceiling lamp

Now that we have these amazing stucco and high ceiling, we should have some nice lamps. Since one of my favorites is way too expensive, I've decided to make one my self. Image of original lamp by Challieres:

Building a home

The move went smooth and all my stuff is finally out of the storage. We been drilling holes in walls, painting and moving things around. On night we went a bit spending crazy and placed bids on the Swedish version of eBay. I'm got really happy when I won the bidding on a pair of gold plated bedside lamps! And a bit surprised that David got excited too.

The return of the cardboard boxes

You might say I'm quite used to live surrounded by moving boxes. Not my favourite but this time, will be the last! When I got back from Gothenburg I moved in to my boyfriends small apartment. Luckily we got the news that a big apartment in the same building was up for grabs! We didn't hesitate one second! Yes, it's a 2 bedroom apartment, 90 square meters of pure magic! Kitchen and bathroom renovated recently, all walls crispy white, the stucco carefully kept in all rooms. I mean, the master bedroom is bigger than D's livingroom! The big moving day is Oct 1:st and I cannot wait to free all my stuff from the rented storage space. See you at the housewarming party!

Enjoying summer

Summer is the best! Although my kind of vacation isn't what I chose, I'm really enjoying it. I've been unemployed since the 1:st of June and so far I'm okay with it. Maybe it's a bit presumptuous of me in this day and age. I've been to a couple of interviews and they all went really well so I'm not that stressed about the situation right now. The only thing I am stressed about is living with my boyfriend in his studio apartment, 42 square meters. Sometimes I get a bit claustrophobic but it wears off quite quickly. Hopefully we'll find something a bit bigger soon. On the upside, the rent is low!

Things I won't be wearing this summer.

You could probably debate whether its summer or not, it hasn't been warmer than 18°C the last month but I'm still hopeful. I had one of my best summers last year. The weather was great, I got the chance to do lots of fun things and I got a great tan! Sticking with the shallowness of summer; summer fashion. Loving the long-awaited bright colours, the pastels and breezy skirts. But there is some items I wouldn't be caught dead in:
- Bright-coloured chinos or jeans. We call them "framgångsjeans", loosely translated as success pants in derogatory way.
- Short shorts. I just can't. Let's face it: there's only a handful of ladies that actually get away with it. And I don't.
- Your underwear showing. Why?
- The no-sleeve jeans shirt, especially the ones that look like you cut off the arms yourself. The opposition towards cut offs can also apply to shorts.

Did I get it all? What's your summer don't?

Going home

Due to some events that I couldn't foresee I'll be moving back to Malmö soon. The agency lost a client only I was working with. I thought about staying in Gothenburg and find a new job here but I miss my family too much. I knew going in to this relocating-Gothenburg-thing would take a toll on me. Moving to a new city, new job, no friends. Friends I was sure to find, it would just take some time. And I have met some. But during this 6 month period my heart just couldn't settle down. I actually feel happy returning home.

Bad blogger

Soooo... I know, it's been a while. I don't know where to start. I guess I just give you the latest news up to date and then add on whatever I missed later on. First, none of this would be possible if I hadn't moved in to my new apartment in Gothenburg. Or if I didn't have Internet. Now, I do. I made the choice of ordering wireless 4G. I think that was the smartest thing to choose since this is a ComHem house. I'm not a big fan of ComHem, their internet services are way over-priced and too many complaints of services interrupted. But their TV ads are fun. How ever, the one thing I'm most excited about right now is the fact that I got my hands on one of the best digital cameras ever! No, Not a Leica M8. Way to pricey. But the runner up: the Ricoh GRII.

I'm super-excited! I still like my analogue cameras but to be honest, digital cameras are a bit more handy. What am I doing sitting inside? The sun is shining. Peace out!

Too girly?

For once, I have the possibility to do something with my walls in my own apartment! For years and years now, it's been a thing to use wallpaper on just one wall. And now, I want this:

I was thinking this would look nice in my bedroom, all other things crispy white! What do you think?

Getting real

Just like when I accepted the offer of a new job in a new town, I got that same feeling of "What have I done?!?" in my stomach yesterday. Since the new year I've been living in the company's apartment, sharing a two bedroom apartment with another newly employed at F&B. Half-hearted I've been looking thru housing, trying to sort out three-way contract swopping but yesterday reality struck.
A couple of weeks ago a girl from Stockholm took a look at my apartment in Malmö, I visited an apartment in Gothenburg and yesterday, the couple from Gbg fell in love with the Stockholm apartment. So I guess I'll be moving! And that is when it hit me! I'm leaving Malmö! I'm leaving a 20 minutes walk to my beloved family and replacing busses and trains for trams.

I actually think this is my house, I'm not sure.... It was dark when I saw it. But the layout is the same, two entrances, all the windows in the corner...

All I wanted...

Image via weheartit

All I wanted for Christmas was snow. I know that sounds a bit wierd since I'm sure I complained a lot last year (and the year before). The last two winters had been the coldest and snowiest since the 1940'ies. Now the temperature has not been lower than 2°C. That's not even winter. And maybe because of the mild weather I battled tonsillitis and won (with the help of modern medicine) and all I have now is a snivel and a small cough.
I also wanted to spent time with my family. And that I got to do. I also got to spent extra time with Iris when her dad had to work. We went ice skating in the park (no skates for me).
Christmas was great. I got a gift card from a camera store and I ordered a camera I wanted for a long time but due to a glitch in the system I ordered one that didn't exist and out of stock. These cameras are hard to come by. Now I have to track down a used one.
What else happened... Well, a day into the new year, my freezer gave up but thanks to the best super ever I got a new one the following day, saving my boar steaks and other deliciousness.
Now I'm just enjoying the last days off work before returning to Gothenburg on Monday.

30 days

I've been at my new work place for almost a month now. I really like it here. My new colleagues are great, my new city is great. Hence the bad blog updating. I've slept like a baby almost every night, trying to sort all the new impressions in the correct folder in my mind. But this week I've been feeling a bit homesick, I think it's just because Christmas is upon us. I haven't done any x-mas shopping but I'm okay with that. Tomorrow I have a day off so I'll be one of those mad-eyed last minute shoppers out there.

The boot pt 2

After posting my last post, I got a text from Mum saying "Don't buy the boot! You have other things to focus on!". And she's right. I do have other stuff to focus on right now. Mums are very good at that kind of thing. Especially mine. Getting me grounded again and thinking of the more practical things. I already have 63 pairs of shoes at home (but no really good boot btw). I tried to auction some off but people are strange. The few bids I got was on the most worn down and cheapest ones. Nothing on the brand new, never used, still in the box-ones. Last weekend we also cleared out my closet, 3 big, black plastic bags. And I have to keep that up. I need to streamline my stuff anyway...

Give me the boot!

I'm seriously digging on these boots right now! It's a pair of ACNEs and they will set me back way too much if I actually do buy them. Just let me drool a bit longer.

Moving on

Three days shy of my five years anniversary, I resigned. I've been commuting to Älmhult almost every day since that day warm, lovely summers day in August. Back then, I was just a free lancer, thinking I only have to do this for three month but then I got an offer to stay. Back then it wasn't a hard decision. I had already met people that have become some of my closest friends. Then my friends left, one by one. A wanted to focus on his music, J took her whole family to Brussels and V moved back to the States. And there was I. Now I'm leaving for Gothenburg, a brand new work place and new colleagues. I have no friends in Gothenburg but I'm sure I'll make some soon. And it's only a tree hours train ride back to Malmö if I get home sick.

I had a brief encounter with anxiety last night, thinking "WHAT HAVE I DONE?". That only lasted for about four minutes. Now my biggest concern is finding a place to live.

From Russia with Love

Maybe not from Russia, but I did get a package. And it was my bike. Or rather parts of my bike.

I've been looking for a small frame for a while now and last week an angel from above answered my ad and now I'm a proud owner of a white, sharp Alien-frame.

It's still missing some vital parts, like wheels, handlebars and other stuff but at least I'm on the way. I'm not going to rush building this together, I'm going to take my time getting the right parts for me. And all the other stuff you need! Like a helmet. Not to mention a whole new world of fashion. How to find a pair of bibs that you actually can be seen in...

A day at the Zoo

I have never been to a zoo. There. I said it. I don't know why on earth I'd never been to one. I mean, I like animals, all kinds of. So, keeping the promise to Iris, we ventured out to Copenhagen and the zoo!

First thing on the list: ice cream!

Different species of Flamingos.

The lions were magnificent! The cubs were born in June and soo cute.

In the tropic house, I made a new friend. This red-cowled Cardinal was is so pretty and not very shy. I got really close and had a nice chat.

One of my favorites are the colorful, but poisonous, small frogs.

I think snakes are so amazing! I'm not really afraid of them (like some people are) but thats easy to say when they are behing glas.

I didn't see any pygmy Marmoset but these Lion Tamarinds I could look at forever. So quick jumping between the branches.

Penguins are penguins, always entertaining.

When I saw the mighty polar bears, I was struck with this sensation that so many have. Animals shouldn't be in captivity. Their area was so small. One kept swimming round and round in a tight circle. I sure hope they hurry with the building of the Arctic area of the zoo.

The Asian Elephants seemed so gentle, walking slowly, throwing dust around.

Sometimes when you think you know someone, they surprise you! Like that fact that my Mum is not very fond of Baboons!

Giraffes. What more can I say?

Wellies!

I never really cared for Wellingtons. Especially in the city. Growing up sailing it was THE thing to wear on the boat but later I frowned upon them. It could be that they all where army green and clumsy. Then, a few years ago, Danish designer Ilse Jacobsen started to design wellies and raincoats that you actually could wear. Great colours on a rainy day!

Mum went to her outlet and got me a pair of black, short ones without the lacing (not seen in the picture). I wore them for the first time today. Now I'm joining the masses with Ilse Jacobsen wellies and another pair shoes in the bag. I'm slowly getting in to fact that autumn is coming... And I'm okey with that.

Best gift ever!

It's not fun to celebrate one's birthday in the middle of the week. People are tired after a days work and there's no time for you to fix a really nice dinner. So I posponed mine till Sunday. I made a fish soup and a Pavlova for dessert (kind of a tradition it seems). And although I'm way past 6 years of age, I found myself jumping up and down when I opened the gift from Mum!

I just put up this bag on my list (yes, we are still making wish lists), never dreaming that I would get it. But I did! Best present ever! Check out the other lovely bags from Svenskt Tenn.

It's a small world

Image via weheartit

Some people say that computers, the Internet and smart phones makes us dumber. Instead of storing information in our brain, we google it. We experience anxiety when a dialog on a chat has dozed off, we get annoyed over idiots who follow us on twitter and not to mention the emptiness that occurs when you write, over analyzed, doubt and finally delete a comment on Facebook or blog.

But in the end, it's all those things that make us come together. From following the student rebellion in Egypt via Twitter to Wikileaks. And the small things... To keep connected to friends that lives in other parts of Sweden or the World. Playing Wordfued with an old school friend you haven't seen for 15 years and reading about the everyday life (and soo exiting) in New York to looking at a friends son taking his first step, it's the best.

With all that said, there's nothing like seeing your friend face to face. After all, we are pack animals...
