30 days

I've been at my new work place for almost a month now. I really like it here. My new colleagues are great, my new city is great. Hence the bad blog updating. I've slept like a baby almost every night, trying to sort all the new impressions in the correct folder in my mind. But this week I've been feeling a bit homesick, I think it's just because Christmas is upon us. I haven't done any x-mas shopping but I'm okay with that. Tomorrow I have a day off so I'll be one of those mad-eyed last minute shoppers out there.

The boot pt 2

After posting my last post, I got a text from Mum saying "Don't buy the boot! You have other things to focus on!". And she's right. I do have other stuff to focus on right now. Mums are very good at that kind of thing. Especially mine. Getting me grounded again and thinking of the more practical things. I already have 63 pairs of shoes at home (but no really good boot btw). I tried to auction some off but people are strange. The few bids I got was on the most worn down and cheapest ones. Nothing on the brand new, never used, still in the box-ones. Last weekend we also cleared out my closet, 3 big, black plastic bags. And I have to keep that up. I need to streamline my stuff anyway...

Give me the boot!

I'm seriously digging on these boots right now! It's a pair of ACNEs and they will set me back way too much if I actually do buy them. Just let me drool a bit longer.

Moving on

Three days shy of my five years anniversary, I resigned. I've been commuting to Älmhult almost every day since that day warm, lovely summers day in August. Back then, I was just a free lancer, thinking I only have to do this for three month but then I got an offer to stay. Back then it wasn't a hard decision. I had already met people that have become some of my closest friends. Then my friends left, one by one. A wanted to focus on his music, J took her whole family to Brussels and V moved back to the States. And there was I. Now I'm leaving for Gothenburg, a brand new work place and new colleagues. I have no friends in Gothenburg but I'm sure I'll make some soon. And it's only a tree hours train ride back to Malmö if I get home sick.

I had a brief encounter with anxiety last night, thinking "WHAT HAVE I DONE?". That only lasted for about four minutes. Now my biggest concern is finding a place to live.

From Russia with Love

Maybe not from Russia, but I did get a package. And it was my bike. Or rather parts of my bike.

I've been looking for a small frame for a while now and last week an angel from above answered my ad and now I'm a proud owner of a white, sharp Alien-frame.

It's still missing some vital parts, like wheels, handlebars and other stuff but at least I'm on the way. I'm not going to rush building this together, I'm going to take my time getting the right parts for me. And all the other stuff you need! Like a helmet. Not to mention a whole new world of fashion. How to find a pair of bibs that you actually can be seen in...

A day at the Zoo

I have never been to a zoo. There. I said it. I don't know why on earth I'd never been to one. I mean, I like animals, all kinds of. So, keeping the promise to Iris, we ventured out to Copenhagen and the zoo!

First thing on the list: ice cream!

Different species of Flamingos.

The lions were magnificent! The cubs were born in June and soo cute.

In the tropic house, I made a new friend. This red-cowled Cardinal was is so pretty and not very shy. I got really close and had a nice chat.

One of my favorites are the colorful, but poisonous, small frogs.

I think snakes are so amazing! I'm not really afraid of them (like some people are) but thats easy to say when they are behing glas.

I didn't see any pygmy Marmoset but these Lion Tamarinds I could look at forever. So quick jumping between the branches.

Penguins are penguins, always entertaining.

When I saw the mighty polar bears, I was struck with this sensation that so many have. Animals shouldn't be in captivity. Their area was so small. One kept swimming round and round in a tight circle. I sure hope they hurry with the building of the Arctic area of the zoo.

The Asian Elephants seemed so gentle, walking slowly, throwing dust around.

Sometimes when you think you know someone, they surprise you! Like that fact that my Mum is not very fond of Baboons!

Giraffes. What more can I say?

Wellies!

I never really cared for Wellingtons. Especially in the city. Growing up sailing it was THE thing to wear on the boat but later I frowned upon them. It could be that they all where army green and clumsy. Then, a few years ago, Danish designer Ilse Jacobsen started to design wellies and raincoats that you actually could wear. Great colours on a rainy day!

Mum went to her outlet and got me a pair of black, short ones without the lacing (not seen in the picture). I wore them for the first time today. Now I'm joining the masses with Ilse Jacobsen wellies and another pair shoes in the bag. I'm slowly getting in to fact that autumn is coming... And I'm okey with that.

Best gift ever!

It's not fun to celebrate one's birthday in the middle of the week. People are tired after a days work and there's no time for you to fix a really nice dinner. So I posponed mine till Sunday. I made a fish soup and a Pavlova for dessert (kind of a tradition it seems). And although I'm way past 6 years of age, I found myself jumping up and down when I opened the gift from Mum!

I just put up this bag on my list (yes, we are still making wish lists), never dreaming that I would get it. But I did! Best present ever! Check out the other lovely bags from Svenskt Tenn.

It's a small world

Image via weheartit

Some people say that computers, the Internet and smart phones makes us dumber. Instead of storing information in our brain, we google it. We experience anxiety when a dialog on a chat has dozed off, we get annoyed over idiots who follow us on twitter and not to mention the emptiness that occurs when you write, over analyzed, doubt and finally delete a comment on Facebook or blog.

But in the end, it's all those things that make us come together. From following the student rebellion in Egypt via Twitter to Wikileaks. And the small things... To keep connected to friends that lives in other parts of Sweden or the World. Playing Wordfued with an old school friend you haven't seen for 15 years and reading about the everyday life (and soo exiting) in New York to looking at a friends son taking his first step, it's the best.

With all that said, there's nothing like seeing your friend face to face. After all, we are pack animals...

Vacation, day 13

Can't really remember what I did on my 12:th day of vacation. Been back at work for almost two weeks now. Day 13 I do remember (and I got the photos to prove it). D and I took the ferry to the small island of Ven with P and H. The weather was great and we walked around the island. I loved the fresh air and slept like a baby!

Vacation, day 11

Day 11. Two sunny days in a row but although I wanted to go to the beach again, my red shoulders and nose said no!
D and I decided to just take a walk around the city. D just got his new camera and I borrowed his old.

Seen hanging from D's shoulder, his greatest love in life, the Leica M8. I'm jealous. We bought some cherries and plums for the road.

Vacation, day 10

Oh, what a difference a day make! The sun came out on my tenth day of vacation. Me and my brother headed down to the beach straight away with our bags packed with fika. We got a good 4 hours of sun (maybe a bit too muck, we both felt the burn the day after). After the beach, we made dinner at his place and then in the evening we went to Far i hatten where we met up with the lovely Reb and Chicago Kid. It was the most perfect day, sun, good food, beers and great friends! That day really felt like vacation.

Vacation, day 9

On our ninth day of vacation, we took a trip to D's hometown of Landskrona. We visited the museum where they had a photo exhibition of Gerry Johansson images from Pontiac. There was alsom a mini exhibition called "10LoFi" with images taken with "toy cameras" like the Diana and the Holga. Their permanent exhibition featured a lot from the time of the dockyards.

Did you know that they actually built airplanes in Landskrona?

After a few hours at the museum, we went to D's parents little garden where we enjoyed a small lunch and relaxing in the sun.

We wrapped things up with dinner at a local restaurant looking over the harbor. A really nice day indeed.

Fisheye

How cute aren't these little fellas? I've been borrowing my brothers fisheye camera for ages. Maybe it's time to return it and get one on my own.

Get yours here. Get close and start snapping...

Vacation, day 8

I just realized that of my two weeks of vacation I have only eaten at home two times. And one of those times we had take away sushi! Day 8 rained away so D and I stayed in and made our own spring rolls, read about that here.

måndag 8 augusti 2011

Vacation, day 7

I'm not a big fan of chinese food. Or thai food for that matter. I find chinese food a bit to heavy. Deep fried shrimps and pork might sound like a good idea at first but after it's not as fun. Vietnamese food, on the other hand! That I like! Crisp, fresh and delicate flavors.

Close to Möllan there's a small gem called Restaurant Asien. Their food is absolutely delightful! D and I had a late lunch there on Sunday. We started of with some spring rolls and then some garlic shrimps. I drank a tall glas of ice cold lemonade. A slice of heaven! If you haven't been there, you must!

Vacation, day 6

I've never slept so good in my own as I did when we got back from Gdansk. I guess it was all the new impressions that made me sleep lika a baby. I met up with my brother at Möllan and got some lovely fresh beet roots, carrots and beans. I tried to give D a call to see if he would join us for a cup of java but it turned out also he was sleeping! In the evening, we went to Tempo with a bottle of polish Vodka in our hands and delivered it to M. He was celebrating his 35:th and as usual, surrounded by family and friends at his favorite bar.

Vacation, day 3, 4 and 5

And off we were to Gdansk, Poland! I'm not going to write anything special about this place, I'm just going to let the pictures speak for them self!

torsdag 4 augusti 2011

Vacation, day 2

Day 2 saw a break in the rain and turned out to be a nice summers day. D's friend came down from Stockholm with his girlfriend. This was the first time we met her and we thought it would be a good idea to take them out to one of our favorite restaurants, Bastard. As you might know, this restaurant is a bit special and not to everyones liking.

On the summer menu was dishes like chicken liver, grilled herring, lardo and pigs feet. We went a little crazy and ordered two dishes each, sampling from each other.

Here's the lovely couple! After two dishes each we all had room for dessert. Later we ventured to Lilla torg for more drinks. The next morning we woke up with a slight hang-over but that didn't put a damper on what was to come. Stay tuned...

måndag 1 augusti 2011

Vacation, day 1

Monday, the first day of my vacation. The weather wasn't what I hoped for but that seems to be the trend this whole summer. But I'm not complaining, I only have two weeks so let's make the most of it. D and I had plans to go to Landskrona museum to see a photo exhibition but at the last minute we found out that they were closed on Mondays... of course... We ended up drinking drinks and eating great food at Carib Kreol instead. And that's not to bad!

I started with a passion fruit Caiprinia and D took a Salines. Accras, jerk chicken, fish soup and a couple of more drinks and some live music made this, our first vacation day, a good day!

onsdag 20 juli 2011

So, we're going to...

Gdansk? Yepp, me and D's first international travelling together goes to Gdansk, Poland. After an evening of argumentation we finally settled on Gdansk. I wanted places like Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Lissabon. He wanted St. Petersburg, Krakow and other east European cities. I asked some colleagues if anyone had been to Gdansk and they had. And loved it apparently. Situated in the north of Poland, 5 km from the shoreline, they say it's really pretty.

We found a small hotel in the old parts of the city, located between two canals. We'll be checking out the local sites (like the Neptune fountain in the image) and trying the food. I hear sausages are the thing there.

måndag 11 juli 2011

Heading for the Beach...

...or not! I really wanted to continue my days in the sun so D and I headed down to Falsterbo Beach. Half way there, D insisted to get of the bus. He was feeling really bad and looking a bit grey-ish. Now, don't feel bad for him, this was completely self inflicted. He and some friends had a massive throw-down on Saturday evening! After a small breather and some water he was feeling better and instead of continuing our journey we walked to Höllviksnäs.

Is this a boat or a house? A house-boat?

Ystad Saltsjöbad

I just got home from two nights at YSB. I had a lovely time with the whole Johnsson clan.

Situated right next to the shore, it was wonderful just to stand and look over the sea.

On arrival, we headed down to the pool. I managed to get a dip in the pool before treating myself to a pedicure. I don't know why I haven't done it before. It was really nice. We had dinner at the local inn just down by the road. Then we all almost fell asleep back in the bar area of the hotel. I guess it was all fresh air!

The following morning we woke up to a rainy Ystad. After a massive breakfast (eggs, bacon, croissants, fresh fruits, yogurt, pancakes, home made jams and anything else you can think of), we discovered the indoor pre-heated pool and the Jacuzzi.

When we can't go out and play, we stayed in and play some pool. Come dinner time, the weather cleared up and we went to the hotel restaurant. The food was amazing! I'll blog about it on my food-blog shortly.

The restaurant called Nero was very nicely decorated, all black and white.
